Laura Farr - Becoming a Ruffles Bexley Influencer

Ruffles Bexley is thrilled to welcome Laura on board to help us promote our amazing range of clothing. We pinned Laura down with a bunch of questions so we can all get to know a bit more about her, what it is like to be an influencer, and why she has chosen to promote Ruffles Bexley:

Q. Laura, tell us about yourself, what do you do for a living?
A. Hi. I'm a mum of three young children and from Brentwood. (I have 6-year-old twins and a one-year-old). I do a few things job wise and like to think of myself as quite a creative person. I'm a make-up artist and specialise mainly in weddings. I love being part of the bride's big day and making them feel amazing and special. I'm also a writer and I've had four books published so far with Harper Collins. I write women's fiction, and this is something I do in my spare time and have always loved doing. Then I also absolutely love fashion and sharing my passion on social media, which is why I'm beginning to add more and more clothes to my Instagram page. I honestly love all my jobs and feel extremely lucky to be doing each of them.

Q. How did you become an influencer?

A. I had built up quite a following on my Instagram page due to my make-up job and I'm always sharing my favourite make up products just because I know lots of people like recommendations on what I use and think is really worth buying. However, I love fashion and styling outfits too. I can't count how many people I've been influenced by myself in the past and spent a fortune when I've seen outfits on social media. I love watching clothes reels and just decided one day to go for it and try filming one myself. Since then, I've been really enjoying incorporating fashion into my page and my followers have really grown since I started doing it.

Q. What do you like best about what you do?

A. I honestly love creating content, helping people and also showing people what clothes look like on normal people. I'm not a size 6, 5'11 model and I've actually had lots of people contact me saying that its nice seeing outfits on someone who is average height etc. More than anything I just find it really fun. I enjoy it. Reels in particular are a great way to show people as they reach a bigger audience at present (not just people following you). I'll never get bored of shopping or trying on new outfits and finding clothes I love. The fact that I can make money doing it is just a bonus for me.

Q. Tell us a bit about things you like to do in your spare time?

A. I love relaxing whenever I can, watching films/Netflix series etc. Going out for dinner/drinks to a spa, that kind of thing. I like to get away on holiday with my family as much as I can too. I also love reading books or listening to audiobooks when I get the chance. I try to stay fit by going to the gym when I can (can't say I absolutely love this all the time though! ha). Other than that, I guess its shopping! Online or in store, I'm not fussy.

Q. What is your advice for others thinking of becoming a fashion influencer?

A.  If it’s something you think you want to do, then just go for it. Don't worry about what other people may/may not think of you. It’s easy to panic and feel silly when you first start out and worry about what you look like.  My page was just about make up, so I felt a bit anxious what people would think if I started to put clothes on there, but the response has been really positive and I'm so glad I didn't let my initial doubts stop me now. Everyone has to start somewhere and if you love fashion/ beauty etc. and want to share it, then you should just do it. I would definitely suggest filming reels if you're confident enough to do them. I've gained most of my followers this way. Then just always be yourself with your style/on stories etc. and show your personality where you can. Staying consistent with posting is also really important. Engaging with your followers is too. I think it’s a good idea to follow other accounts that inspire you as well.

Q. What made you choose to wear clothes from Ruffles Bexley?
Firstly, I absolutely love the style of the clothing. There's the latest trend-pieces as well as wardrobe staples, casual daytime sets to cute going out dresses. Colourful styles or neutral classics. I feel like there's something for everyone on there and also the outfits are modern and unique too. Everything is such an affordable price too!

Q. Ruffles Bexley is doing its best to be more sustainable. What do you think of our ambitions to reduce wastage and storage in the fashion industry and to not promote the wearing of fur?

A.  I think it’s absolutely great! It’s so important that more companies do the same as this. I love that you have a 'recycle your unwanted clothes and receive rewards' scheme on your website because it’s so easy today to just keep buying and buying without even thinking about what it’s doing to our environment, so to make people more aware of this is really important. The same with not promoting wearing fur too. Personally, I would always wear faux fur.

Q. Lastly, what are your favourite Ruffles Bexley pieces right now?

A. This is hard to say! I love the Laura waffle set I have as it’s so comfortable and expensive looking (even though it’s really affordable). I have the pink, but I love the black too. I also love the Lily knitted set in beige as I feel like it’s something I would get so much use out of and I'm a huge fan of neutrals. The patty set is also lovely for a casual set too.  I adore the Bernie playsuits in both colours and the viola blazer dress is so cute for brunch with the girls. For something pretty, I really like the Rihanna Floral dress and the Lydia beige embellished set is gorgeous!
